A Nairobi court has issued an arrest warrant for Juja Member of Parliament George Koimburi after he failed to appear for arraignment on charges of allegedly faking his own abduction.
The MP was charged in absentia at the Milimani Law Courts on Tuesday alongside Kanyenya-ini Ward MCA Grace Nduta Wairimu and five others.

The group faces accusations of conspiring to defeat the course of justice, contrary to Section 117(c) of the Penal Code.

The prosecution told the court that on May 25, 2025, Koimburi and his co-accused—including Peter Kiratu Muhia, David Macharia Gatana, Cyrus Keriu Muhia, and two other individuals identified as Peter and Njuguna alias “Njugush”—orchestrated a staged kidnapping in Mugutha area, Juja sub-county.

The alleged motive was to obstruct Koimburi’s arrest and scheduled arraignment in connection with four counts of land fraud.

Koimburi was reportedly abducted outside a church service and later “found” in a plantation in Ruiru, before being taken to Plainsview Hospital and subsequently transferred to a Nairobi facility. During the incident, opposition politicians aligned to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua condemned the alleged abduction, claiming Koimburi had been tortured before being dumped.

However, the State now asserts the entire ordeal was fabricated. Koimburi also faces a separate charge of publishing false information, after issuing a press statement from Nairobi Hospital via YouTube, claiming to have been kidnapped and tortured.

One of the co-accused, Peter Kiratu Muhia, is additionally charged with giving false information to a public officer after allegedly reporting the staged abduction at Mugutha Police Station, prompting police action based on the claims.

Appearing before Senior Principal Magistrate Ben Mark Ekhubi, four of the accused pleaded not guilty. Arrest warrants were also issued for two other suspects who failed to appear.
