Two families in Mlolongo, Machakos County, are in anguish months after their kin disappeared under mysterious circumstances.

Kalani Muema and Stephen Mbisi were among four men abducted in December 2024, at the height of state-linked disappearances.

They were abducted alongside Martin Mwau and Justus Mutumwa who were later found dead.

“We are tired of waiting. We just want the government to tell us the truth. If my brother is alive, show us. If he is gone, we deserve to bury him with dignity,” said Monica Mwende, sister to Kalani Muema.

The family of Stephen Mbisi has chosen not to speak to the media, citing deep emotional pain and unresolved trauma. They say their wounds are still too fresh to talk about the ordeal publicly.

Human rights lawyer Fanya Mambo Kinuthia has condemned the incident, calling it unlawful and a clear violation of basic constitutional rights.

“Abducting citizens and detaining them without due process is a grave offense. This is unconstitutional and unacceptable. The government must be held accountable and provide answers,” said kinuthia.

The families have tried every avenue available to seek information from authorities without success. Now, they are appealing to President Ruto to personally intervene in their quest for justice and closure.
