Drama unfolded on Thursday night at Kangu village in Mwea-East, Kirinyaga County after three suspected criminals allegedly attempted to carjack a prominent local farmer at his homestead.

According to the victim, John Bundi Ndambiri, the incident occurred around 8 p.m. as he waited for his gate to be opened.

“Two men entered my vehicle and one tried to push me out while another shouted, ‘shoot him.’ I quickly realised the object he was wielding was a hammer. I raised the alarm and managed to escape,” Mr. Bundi recounted.

Bundi said he fled towards the Mwea–Embu highway, about 200 metres from his homestead, shouting for help. Alarmed residents quickly responded and set ablaze a vehicle believed to have been used by the suspects.

“There were three attackers, including one who remained inside the vehicle. I suspect they had been trailing me the whole day. I believe they intended to abduct me and take me to an unknown destination,” Bundi added.

The angry villagers torched the car, reducing it to ashes, and mounted a search for the suspects who are believed to have escaped into a nearby maize plantation.

“They wanted to hijack Mr. Bundi, who is a respected farmer and a friendly member of our community. We cannot allow criminals to terrorize us,” said one of the residents.

Police officers from Wang’uru Police Station, led by Kirimara Location Chief Naftaly Ndege, rushed to the scene and confirmed that investigations into the incident have been launched.
