The driver of a matatu where a tout was captured performing dangerous stunts was arrested and charged with traffic offence after the reckless act sparked public outrage.

The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) says that in the incident, the driver applied sudden braking, sharp turns and acceleration which could have caused a fatal fall to the passengers.

The authority says that the driver was arrested shortly after the video surfaced online. He was latter presented to the court and charged with several traffic related charges. He was granted a cash bail of Ksh.100.000 or a court bond of Ksh.300,000.

The NTSA emphasize the importance of road safety in public transportation.

“While in the vehicle, passengers including the conductor must always use seats and seatbelts for their safety,” NTSA noted.

The authority praised the public for reporting the incident and recommend them to be vigilant.

In the video, the tout was captured hanging on the door rails of the matatu, swinging and performing stunts.

The stunt was reckless and extremely dangerous. Sudden braking, sharp turns, or acceleration can easily throw the passenger off balance, leading to a fatal fall.
