Speaking on Citizen TV DayBreak on Tuesday, Wandeto said he believes Odinga is positioning himself strategically to secure a better deal for himself and his allies ahead of the polls.
“I see he could be raising the stake for a better deal,” Wandeto remarked. “I won’t be surprised if he forces the president to see even more between now and 2027 by simply appearing to pull back.”
During ODM’s 20th anniversary, Odinga urged the party members not to speak on the party’s plans in the 2027 general elections, insisting that they remain aligned with its political strategy.
Although Odinga has not formally declared whether he will contest in 2027, political experts suggest he may be seeking a different platform from which to influence national and continental politics.
“Baba is putting everyone on a guessing game,” Wandeto added. “It is a continuation of his style of politics that we are seeing for a long time… yesterday he said, he was just an “emergency doctor” to save the “patient”-Kenya. Now that the “patient” is in stable condition, he has no further responsibility.”
Wandeto added that Odinga’s remarks appeared to dampen the momentum of the “Kumi bila break” campaign, and even hinted at a possible tilt toward the “one term” movement.
For Wandeto, Odinga’s role in 2027 general election is clear; not as a candidate, but as a key player.
“But from where I sit, I doubt he will be on the ballot, I think he will just be a stakeholder in the 2027 general election.”
