An explosion in Mandera town has left several people nursing serious injuries.
According to Mandera East Member of Parliament Hussein Weytan, the explosion occurred at a hotel late on Saturday, October 4, 2025.
According to the lawmaker’s account, three people were seriously injured and rushed to Mandera County Teaching and Referral Hospital.
“I am deeply saddened to learn of the explosion that occurred at Kona B Hotel in Mandera town on Saturday night, which left three individuals seriously injured. This tragic incident has affected our community deeply, and my heartfelt sympathies go out to all those impacted.

At this difficult time, my thoughts and prayers are with the injured, who are receiving care at the Mandera County Teaching and Referral Hospital. I wish them a full and speedy recovery, and I commend the medical team for their tireless efforts,” Weytan’s statement read in part.
Calls for investigations
While extending sympathies for those impacted by the explosion, the Mandera East MP called on the relevant authorities to investigate the cause of the explosion.
“To the families and loved ones of those hurt, please know that you are not alone. The entire community stands with you in solidarity. I also call on the relevant authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the cause of this explosion to ensure the safety and security of all our citizens,” the MP wrote.
“Let us come together in unity and compassion as we support one another through this moment of hardship. Mandera is strong, and together, we will overcome.”

The explosion was also confirmed by the leader of the 7th Community in Mandera County, who spoke to a local media publication. According to the leader, the blast occurred at around 6:00 pm.
He further corroborated Weytan’s statement that three people were injured.
By the time of this publication, police had not issued a statement regarding the incident.
