It was the end of the road for a gang of 11 members after detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations confirmed the capture of the culprits who have been terrorising locals in Kiminini.
In a statement shared on Facebook, the DCI stated that the suspects were part of a notorious criminal outfit that had been spreading fear across several villages
“Kiminini Sub-County Law Enforcement officers have apprehended eleven individuals linked to the criminal gang known as Mbogi Yaadu,” the DCI statement reads in part.
The detectives revealed that for a long time, the group had turned the peaceful area into a crime zone.

“For a while, the gang wreaked havoc on the peaceful residents of Kiminini, terrorising the communities of Birunda, Kiungani, and neighbouring areas,” the DCI added.
Weapons seized
The arrests followed what investigators described as a decisive crackdown aimed at restoring order and safety in the region.
“The arrest unfolded as officers launched a decisive crackdown to restore safety and security to the region,” the DCI said.
During the raid, police recovered a cache of crude but dangerous weapons that had been used to intimidate residents.
“During the raid, officers recovered weapons, including bows, arrows, machetes, and knives, which the gang has been using to instil fear among innocent citizens,” the statement further reads.
The 11 suspects were immediately taken into custody and are now facing the law.
“The suspects are now behind bars, undergoing processing, pending arraignment at the Kitale Law Courts,” the DCI confirmed.

Wider security push
The Kiminini operation came just hours after the DCI announced another major breakthrough in the fight against organised crime, this time involving international drug traffickers.
Earlier, the agency confirmed on X that six Iranian nationals had been arraigned at the Shanzu Law Courts in Mombasa over a massive consignment of methamphetamine valued at approximately Ksh8.2B.
The suspects were linked to the seizure of more than 1,036 kilograms of methamphetamine that was intercepted in October 2025 during a high-risk maritime operation in the Indian Ocean.

According to the DCI, the accused pleaded guilty and were ordered to be remanded at Shimo La Tewa GK Prison pending the reading of facts scheduled for Friday, January 30, 2026.
The twin operations in Kiminini and Mombasa underscore the growing determination by Kenyan security agencies to dismantle both local criminal gangs and international drug trafficking networks that threaten the safety of the country.
