Gospel singer Justina Syokau has officially announced her bid for the Machakos County Women Representative seat in the 2027 elections, joining several Kenyan celebrities who have declared their political interest in the next general elections.
Speaking during an interview with a local media station on Thursday, January 15, 2025, Syokau said her ambition is rooted in a desire to give back to the people of Machakos County.
She highlighted her ongoing work with initiatives that support the girl child, noting that her efforts extend beyond her immediate community.
“Mimi nataka kukuwa women rep Machakos County,nimekuwa nikigive back to the Machakos County kwa girl child initiative, not only to my community,” Syokau announced.
“If my people elect me, I will lead with wisdom, and one thing is that God alinipitisha machungu ilinisipitishe watu. mimi ni yatima; mamangu alianga, and babangu ako, but mimi nimedeal na situation mingi mimi nilienda shule bila sanitary pads; nilikuwa natumia vitamba.”
She emphasised that her leadership will focus on both girls and boys, ensuring children receive education, and parents are empowered with ways to support their children’s learning.
“So I will help both girl and boy children, I will make sure people are educated in Machakos County, also nitasaidia wazazi wajue ni njia gani wataweza kusomesha watoto kwa njia ya urahisi,” she stated.
Syokau urged voters to support her and start addressing her as the Honourable or as Machakos Women Rep.
“Naomba sana watu wanishike mkono na watu, na watu wanaponiona tafadhani muniite ‘mweshimiwa’ kuanzia sasa muniite ‘women rep wa Machakos’,” she urged.
Political party
The twenty-twenty hitmaker further revealed that she will be contesting under President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party
“Chama ni hii moja ya tutam, nko ndani ya UDA, nko kwa tutam atanimeimba Ruto tutam,” she said, declaring her support for Ruto’s re-election.
Syokau to voters
The UDA aspirant further advised voters to elect leaders based on experience and understanding of community challenges, rather than wealth or party dictates.
“Nivizuri kuchagua watu ambao ni young, watu ambao wamepitia changamoto, kwa sababu watu wengi ambao tunawachaguliwa,tunawachagua kwa sababu wako na hela ama kwa sababu chama imesema,” she added.
“It is good to elect leaders who are ready to lead people. watu waache kuchagua viongozi kwa sababu wako kwa chama fulani wachague watu wanao jua shida yenye iko kwa ground mimi ni mtu nimelelewa mashambani so najua shida yenye iko kwa ground.”
Syokau also pledged that any government resources she accesses will be dedicated to serving the common citizen, adding that her focus is to make life easier for ordinary families in Machakos County.
“Mimi ile hela ya serikali nitadedicate common mwananchi,”Syokau stated.
