Kenya Power announces power blackout to affect parts of 6 counties

Kenya Power has announced a planned power blackout that will affect parts of Nairobi and five other counties.

In a statement posted on the utility company’s official social media platforms on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, it has noted that the planned outage will affect parts of Nairobi, Uasin Gishu, Nyandarua, Nandi, Nyeri, and Kirinyaga counties.

Parts to be affected by outage

Areas affected in Nairobi are the whole of Mpweke Lane, including Total South B, part of Kapiti Road, and adjacent customers.

The planned outage will run from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Engineers, Ndunyu Njeru and Njambin,i will be affected in Nyandarua County, with the outage running from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm.

The whole of Engineer, Murungaru, Tirasha Memo, Kirathimo, Chuma, Thindi, Munyaka, the whole of Njambini, Sasumua Dam, Solio, Kinamba, Yanga, Ndinda, Karima Girls, NYS Naivasha and adjacent customers will be affected.

Uasin Gishu and Nandi Counties

In Uasin Gishu, the planned outage will affect customers in Kipkenyo Simat, with the outage planned to run from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.

Kipkenyo Primary, Eldowas sewage, Liberty school, Tuiyo, St Theresa of Avilla, Lemook Soko and adjacent customers will be affected.

The planned outage will affect Kakaragon, Centre Kwanza, Tulon Quarry and adjacent customers.

Customers in these areas will be affected from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

In Nyeri, customers in Solio Ranch and Solio Water Pump will be affected from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Areas listed in the notice are Solio Ranch, Solio Water Pump, Solio Lodge, Solio Cattle Dip, Solio Village and adjacent customers.

Areas affected in Kirinyaga

Makutano, Muthithi and Mwea will be affected by the planned outage from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

KPLC listed Nice Rice Millers, Anmatr, Mutithi, PI Mwea, Kamweli, Makutano, Winpride, Kirwara, Makawani, Kikumini, Gitaraka, Karaba, Wango, Kaseve, Bonzuki, Ndidiriku, Kirumbu, Kyasuni, Musingine, Gatuiri, Kuihota, Makongeni, Nthingine, Riakanau, Ciagini Iria Itune and adjacent customers as those who will be affected.
