Kenya Power has announced a planned power outage affecting parts of Nyeri and Nyandarua counties on Friday, January 23, 2026, as part of maintenance work aimed at improving electricity supply reliability in the region.
In a statement shared on X on Thursday, January 22, 2026, Kenya Power revealed that the maintenance work is expected to cause temporary electricity outages in several regions.

In Nyeri, the outage will affect Kahigaini, Kiandu and Ithenguri from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Key areas impacted include Kahigaini, Kwa Chief, Kiunyu, and adjacent customers.
Additional parts of Nyeri, including Kigwandi, Karurumo, Kiandu Market and School, Kariko, Kaiguri, and Gondo will also experience power cuts during the same hours.
Nyandarua County
In Nyandarua County, areas affected by the outage include Mawingu, Machinnery and Miharati with power interruptions scheduled from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm.
Affected locations cover the whole of Mumui, Mawingu, Matopeni, Gathiriga, Tigoni, Migaa, St. John Bondeni, Machinnery, Kahiga, the whole of Miharati, Ndiara, Munyuini, Mubau and adjacent customers.
The utility company stated that planned maintenance exercises are critical for ensuring a reliable electricity supply and minimising unexpected power interruptions.
These activities are carried out to inspect, service, and upgrade electrical infrastructure, which includes transformers, distribution lines, and other essential components of the electricity network.
Customers are encouraged to check the Kenya Power website for detailed schedules and updates on power restoration.
“Good Evening, the following areas will be on a planned power maintenance tomorrow (23.01.2026),” the utility company stated.
