A somber mood has engulfed Ebukhando wa Ngapi village in Luanda Sub-county after a young man killed his stepfather.

The shocking incident occurred on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, following a dispute over a tree on their plot boundary.

According to the area’s senior assistant chief, Madam Grace Adino, the deceased, Jackton Khukuli, tried to stop the person of interest from pruning the tree.

“It was around 7:30 AM when I was informed that a son had killed his stepfather after they disagreed over pruning a tree on their plot boundary. When asked to stop, the young man instead came down and struck his stepfather three times with a panga, killing him on the spot,” Adino said.

The body of the deceased had deep panga cuts to the head, causing excessive bleeding and resulting in his death.

Adino said the person of interest attempted to flee after committing the murder but was cornered by irate villagers, who beat him and tied him to the body of the deceased.

“After committing the murder, the boy tried to escape but was apprehended by the villagers, who had responded to the noises from the deceased. He was beaten by the mob and injured,” Adino said.

Police from Luanda Police Station later arrived at the scene and rescued the person of interest from the lynching mob.

The body of the deceased was taken to the Coptic Mortuary, while the person of interest was arrested and taken to the Luanda Police Station.

The area chief used the incident to urge residents to mark their plot boundaries clearly to avoid such conflicts, noting that disputes over plot boundaries are rampant in the area.

“Let us have clear boundary demarcations of our plots to prevent conflicts,” Adino said.
