Kiambu County Assembly Majority Leader Godfrey Mucheke is recovering in the hospital after he was reportedly attacked by suspected goons following a county function in Kikuyu Constituency.

Mucheke, who is also the Member of County Assembly for Kalimoni Ward, was accosted at Mai-A-Ihii area in Karai Ward shortly after attending a bursary distribution event hosted by Governor Kimani Wamatangi on Tuesday, February 24, 2026.

According to eyewitnesses, the group had been mobilised to disrupt the function, which ended in chaos as stones were hurled at the Majority Leader and other attendees.

“The event was peaceful until goons invaded the area. Stones were pelted at Mucheke, who sustained injuries and was rushed to a hospital in Kikuyu for treatment,” said a county MCA who attended the function.

Attempts to reach Mucheke for a comment were unsuccessful as his phone went unanswered.

There were also unverified reports that police declined to provide security for the event despite a formal request by county officials.

Several vehicles were reportedly damaged during the incident as residents and guests fled the scene.
