Catholic University suspends security guard after confrontation with student

The Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA) has suspended a security guard following the circulation of a video on social media showing a confrontation between the guard and a student within the university premises.

In a statement, the university management said it had taken note of the widely shared footage and emphasizing that it does not tolerate any form of violence or intimidation directed at members of the university community.

“The University wishes to state unequivocally that it does not countenance any form of violence, intimidation, or unprofessional conduct against members of the University community or any other,” the statement read.

According to the university, the security guard is deployed by a third-party security service provider contracted by the institution.

University management said it has initiated internal review processes and is engaging the security company responsible for the guard to ensure full accountability.

“The security guard involved… has been immediately suspended from duty pending ongoing investigations and appropriate disciplinary action,” the university said.

The institution further called on members of the university community and the public to remain calm as investigations continue.

“We urge members of the University community and the public to remain calm as the matter is being addressed with the seriousness it deserves,” the statement added.
