Police in Kisumu are probing an incident where robbers armed with crude weapons invaded Fairways hotel located at the Kisumu’s Lake Basin Development Authority Mall (LBDA).

Police say the matter was reported by the hotel owner Irungu Nyakera, also a former Principal Secretary, who says the suspects damaged property of unknown value and escaped with some electronic gadgets.

Police say Nyakera, who is a licensed firearm holder, fired two shots in the air to scare away the suspects. During the incident, a motor vehicle was also damaged by the suspects.

DCI officers visited the scene and are already probing the incident to nab the suspects.

In the meantime, Nyakera, who spoke to the media at the scene, condemned the incident and accused LBDA, which they are in court over rent arrears, of being behind the incident. The former PS had earlier shared videos of the attack on social media, where dozens of armed goons were seen entering the property and causing destruction.

He accused an incumbent Principal Secretary of orchestrating the attack.

However, in a response to the media, LBDA Managing Director Wycliffe Ochiaga, in a statement, noted that the Fairways hotel owes the authority a total of over Ksh.25 million, which it has not honored to settle as per the agreement.
