Police officers in Mumias East constituency, Kakamega County, are detaining three men, including a boda boda operator, at Shianda Police Station on suspicion of raping two 10-year-old girls in two separate incidents.

The victims were left with injuries and were admitted to different hospitals in the area.

Confirming the two cases, Mumias East Police Commander Dorice Chemoss stated that the first 10-year-old victim encountered the ordeal after leaving her home in the Dorofu area of neighbouring Bungoma County. She was heading to Shianda in Mumias East to look for her mother when she met a young man who deceived her and took her to his home, where he and an accomplice took turns raping her.

She added that the second incident involved a Grade 6 student from Mwitoti JSS, who was raped by a 30-year-old boda boda operator in the Ekero area. The girl was left with severe injuries while she was on her way to school early in the morning.

The police commander noted that both victims are continuing to receive treatment in the hospital, while the three suspects — Brighton Anyembe, Solomon Amwoka, and Martin Salasya — are being held at Shianda Police Station awaiting their arraignment.
