Singer Bahati has, for the first time, spoken about the emotional strain caused by the highly publicised DNA saga, after a woman claimed to be his biological mother, revealing the impact it had on both him and his family.

Speaking to a vernacular radio station on Monday, March 23, 2026, he detailed how the situation started three years ago when a woman approached him claiming to be his biological mother, even though he grew up in a children’s home and believed that his mother was dead.

At the time, he chose to ignore her, emphasising that he wanted to handle the matter carefully, given the sensitive nature of issues involving his late mother.

Everything changed in 2025 when the matter escalated after he stumbled upon an interview with the woman. At first, he laughed it off, convinced it was a dirty trick by his competitors. “I thought they had sent her to make people believe I’m not a true Kamba,” he recalled.

The saga sparked a series of personal and family challenges that Bahati says were difficult to navigate. Relatives, including his aunties, began calling him repeatedly, asking if he wanted his mother to “resurrect.”

The constant questions created tension and stress, highlighting how the controversy touched not only him but also his close family members.

“hio kitu imeleta shida juu adi ma aunty wangu nyumba ni walikuwa wananipigia wakiuliza kwani unataka mama afufuke,”he said.

Bahati highlighted how the situation escalated after DNA tests were carried out, with the woman accusing him of bribing the doctor to make the results show he was not her son.

“Sasa mahali aliharibu th woman started saying that I paid the doctor so that the results come, I’m not the son”, he noted.

He admitted the emotional toll was far heavier than he had imagined. At one point, he even offered to help her search for her missing child, but she refused, insisting he was still her son, a claim he strongly disputed.
