Luanda Villa are showing renewed life following the return of head coach Leonard Saleh, with back-to-back victories boosting their hopes of avoiding relegation from the National Super League.
Saleh, who recently rejoined the club after leaving in January due to “unfulfilled promises” and the expiration of his contract, has overseen two wins in as many matches, restoring belief within the squad.
His return comes after a difficult spell under Francis Chinjili, who managed just one draw in six matches and struggled to steady the team following Saleh’s departure. Chinjili quietly exited Mumboha, paving the way for Saleh’s comeback.
Saleh marked his return with an immediate impact, guiding Luanda Villa to a crucial win over MCF — their first victory in seven matches. Despite a subsequent 2-0 defeat away to Fortune Sacco, the team bounced back strongly with a 1-0 win over Nairobi City Stars FC last weekend.
The result lifted Luanda Villa to 14th place on the table with 28 points from 25 matches, keeping their survival hopes alive.
“I am happy that the team has regained its unity. Initially, everybody was playing their own game, but I can report that the team is now together, and our recent performance speaks volumes,” Saleh said after the win at Mumboha.
“We are hopeful of remaining in the league this season,” added the former KCB FC tactician.
Attention now turns to a crucial clash against Equity FC this weekend, with Saleh optimistic his side can extend their resurgence.
“We drew 1-1 with Equity FC in the first leg, but my hope is that we get a good result in the upcoming match,” he said, urging fans to remain patient while promising a brighter future for the club.
