Veteran rapper and storyteller Kennedy Ombima, famously known as King Kaka, has opened up about the emotional journey following his breakup with football fanatic Nana Owiti.
Revealing how the split influenced his personal growth and creative projects.
In a candid conversation with media personality Dr Ofweneke in an episode aired on Thursday, April 2, 2026, King Kaka shared that the end of the relationship was difficult, but it also became a turning point in his life.
He reflected on how navigating the change from living with a partner to living independently shaped his perspective on family, responsibility, and self-discovery.
“The unit that I had as a family ni kitu nilikuwa accustomed to, so even the change was hard on me,” King Kaka disclosed.
“Like everyone else, I have feelings and emotions; I had to go through what I went through, but the ability of me standing up and saying okay juu watu wangi huwa wanakwama kwa that space.”
Acquired skills after break-up
The rapper also revealed that the breakup indirectly led him to explore new skills and ventures.
He went on to narrate that living alone, he found himself needing to take care of everyday tasks, including cooking.
“In one year, I have learned how to cook. Niliingia kwa nyumba niko peke yangu and how I ended up kujua kupika nilianza na tumbukiza juu hauitaji lessons, ugali nilikuwa najua kupika,” he narrated.

His cooking show
Additionally, Kaka Empire CEO added that the experience eventually inspired him to launch his YouTube cooking show, a platform where he could learn in front of an audience and share his mistakes and successes openly.
“That is how I ended up starting a cooking show, nilisema sitaki kulearn kupika nikiwa peke yangu; nataka nilearn in front of everyone nikimake mistakes,” King Kaka said.
“Cooking show yangu ilikuwa ni show ya mtu hajui kupika; that was the idea, lakini sahi tunaenda season two.“
King Kaka on co-parenting
This comes months after he spoke about their co-parenting arrangements.
In a YouTube conversation with politician Karen Nyamu on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, King Kaka shared that despite the breakup, he and Nana have maintained a cordial and cooperative relationship for the sake of their children.
“Ahh machungu, tulishamaliza. Tunacopparent vizuri, hata this weekend niko na watoto. Looking forward. Machungu sisi tulishamaliza. Tuko easy,” he explained.
Break-up
Taking to their respective social media accounts on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, the former couple officially announced that they have parted ways.
“We honestly never thought we would one day write a statement like this, but life happens. After much reflection and consideration, we have made the difficult decision to end our relationship. Over the course of 13 years, we have shared countless memories, built a life together, and, most importantly, raised three incredible children who will always be our top priority,” reads part of King Kaka and Nana Owiti’s statement.
“This decision was not made lightly, and we remain deeply committed to maintaining a respectful and supportive relationship as we move forward separately. As public figures, we recognise that our personal lives may attract attention, but we kindly ask for privacy and understanding during this time as we navigate this transition as a family.”
They, however, noted that the joint decision was made with mutual respect, adding that their focus remains on co-parenting their children.
