Residents of Mukinduri village in Kirinyaga Central Constituency gathered to bid a tearful farewell to Peninah Wambui, a 37-year-old mother of two who was brutally murdered in a shocking incident that has left the community reeling.

Wambui was reportedly killed at her rented house in Mukinduri shopping centre, where her body was later found in the sitting room. According to family members, the assailants are believed to have doused her body with acid before fleeing.

The emotional burial was marked by calls for justice, with family members led by Rose Wambura and Alex Macharia urging authorities to conduct thorough investigations and ensure those responsible are brought to book.

“We suspect the killer gained access to her house, killed her, and doused her with acid before escaping,” said a cousin, visibly shaken. “Her eight-year-old daughter raised the alarm at around 10pm after noticing smoke.”

The incident has sent shockwaves across the community, with residents describing Wambui as a kind and hardworking woman.

“She was an M-Pesa operator at Mukinduri and was loved by many. She had a smile that could light up a room, and her absence will be deeply felt,” said resident Joseph Karangi.
