Radio host Alex Mwakideu has questioned why some Kenyans are attacking Oga Obinna over his planned visit to State House.
On Wednesday, April 8, 2026, he said the situation has raised mixed reactions online after Obinna shared a video talking about his intentions.
He explained that Oga Obinna himself had made a video announcing that he was going to State House. He added that Obinna mentioned he would take boxers Majembe and Mbavu Destroyer to State House and asked people not to bring politicsinto the matter.
According to Mwakideu, the conversation has since gone viral on social media.
“Obinna mwenyewe alitengeneza video na akaambia wakenya, naenda State House, napeleka ma boxers statehouse,” Alex Mwakideu said.
Public reaction and online debate
Mwakideu said the reaction from Kenyans has been mixed, with some defending Obinna while others strongly criticising him. He explained that the discussion has spread widely on X, where many people have shared their opinions. He added that Obinna seemed aware that the video would attract attention.
“Na msiweke siasa, kwenye hii kuenda kwangu. Na kama alivyosema tu ametrend kwenye X kweli kweli. Alijua tu,” Alex Mwakideu said.
He further said that public figures often face pressure when they express themselves openly. According to him, some people supported Obinna’s message while others opposed it completely. He noted that this kind of reaction is common when celebrities are involved in public issues.
“Sijaelewa, kwanini wakenya,” Alex Mwakideu said.
Questions on political stance for public figures
Mwakideu also raised a question about whether public figures should take political positions. He explained that it is an honest concern because celebrities often have a large influence on society. He said the issue goes beyond Oga Obinna and applies to many public personalities.
“Mimi nauliza, and it is an honest question, public figures, like Oga Obinna, kuna ubaya gani kwa public figures kuwa na msimamo wa kisiasa?” Alex Mwakideu said.
He added that some public figures are supported when they express their views, while others are criticised for the same actions. He said this contradiction is part of the ongoing debate online. According to him, the discussion shows how divided opinions can be when politics and entertainment mix.
Obinna is expected to take Mbavu Destroyer and Majembe to State House after the Vurugu bout, which attracted praise from a section of leaders, including the Embakasi East MP Babu Owino.
