Britney Spears has admitted herself into rehab following her DUI arrest in March.
The singer is seeking treatment for substance abuse after reaching “rock bottom” following her arrest.
On March 5, Spears was detained by California Highway Patrol on suspicion of driving under the influence of “a combination of drugs and alcohol “. At the time of her detention, an unidentified substance was discovered in her vehicle.
Her manager said: “This was an unfortunate incident that is completely inexcusable. Britney is going to take the right steps and comply with the law, and hopefully, this can be the first step in a long-overdue change that needs to occur in Britney’s life. Hopefully, she can get the help and support she needs during this difficult time.”
According to Us Weekly, that “help and support” is materialising in the form of a rehabilitation programme.
The publication reported that a representative of Spears confirmed that she had enrolled herself into a facility where she could receive treatment for substance abuse.
A source also informed TMZ that Spears’ decision to enter rehab was taken with her upcoming court appearance in mind. The singer is due in court on 4 May concerning her DUI charge.
The source stated that Spears, who has previously battled with alcohol and drugs such as ADHD medication Adderall, “knows strategically” that attending rehab “will look good in front of the judge” as it will demonstrate she is “taking it seriously”.
They added that she “hit rock bottom” following the arrest, but her sons, Sean, 20, and Jayden, 19, have been “strongly supportive” of her decision to go to rehab.
