Recording Academy president Panos A. Panay is set to visit Nairobi from May 26 to May 29 for talks with President William Ruto on opportunities in Kenya’s creative economy and the country’s position in the global music industry.

In a statement, the Recording Academy said Panay’s visit is supported by the US Department of State’s Arts Envoy Program, which engages American arts professionals to promote international collaboration and cultural diplomacy.

The Academy said Panay and President Ruto will explore opportunities focused on talent development, industry infrastructure and international market access, as part of its broader global expansion efforts in Africa and the Middle East.

Panay is also scheduled to meet senior government officials as well as artists and music industry leaders to exchange views on growing opportunities and strengthening the global music industry’s footprint in Africa.

The US Embassy in Kenya is also supporting Kenya’s continued participation in the American Music Mentorship Program (AMMP), a partnership between the US Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and the Recording Academy.

Launched in 2024, the programme links international music professionals with US-based mentors and focuses on behind-the-scenes roles essential to thriving music markets.

The Recording Academy said Kenya has been selected to participate for a second consecutive year, with a new cohort expected to join in fall 2026.
