Over 65 families displaced by floods in Kirinyaga

Over 65 families have been displaced by heavy rains pounding parts of Mwea West sub-county and Ndia constituency in Kirinyaga County which have left several villages flooded, forcing residents to flee their homes and count losses.

In Kianjanga village, in Mukure Ward, containing 15 families, houses have been submerged, leaving families stranded and living in fear.

According to Kenya Red Cross coordinator Martin Kagunda, over 65 families have been displaced, saying urgent measures are needed.

Residents stated that they have been cut off from neighbouring areas after floodwaters swept through the villages

Joseph Wanjohi and Hildah Kagondu said they are unable to leave their homes and urged the county government to intervene.

They described the situation as dire, noting that water from nearby road drainage drains into their homes, leaving the village marooned
