Thursday blackout to affect parts of 9 counties

Kenya Power has announced planned electricity interruptions that are expected to affect parts of nine counties across the country on Thursday, May 14, 2026.

In a public notice issued on Wednesday, the utility company noted that the planned interruption is necessary for routine network maintenance

In Nairobi County, the outage will affect parts of South B from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Areas set to experience the interruption include Comply Industries, South B Chiefs’ Camp, South B Total Petrol Station, National Hospital Insurance Fund Houses, South B Mosque, Bondo Road, Kariba, Riverbank Estate, parts of Mariakani Estate, Hazina Estate, Plains View Estate, parts of Parkside View Estate, Golden Gate Estate, Balozi Estate, Railway Training Institute and nearby customers.

Other parts of Nairobi that will be affected include Karen, Kileleshwa and Spring Valley. In Karen, the blackout will run from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm and will affect The Hub Karen, Tree Lane, parts of Windy Ridge, Karen Police Station, Shell Karen, Miotoni West, World Vision, Karen Lane, Nandi Road, Montessori Centre, Saint Christopher’s School and Dari Wildlife Foundation among others.

In Kileleshwa, customers around Gatundu Road and Gatundu Close will be affected from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. In Spring Valley, the outage will hit areas around Thigiri Ridge Road, Thigiri Close, Thigiri Crescent, Thigiri Gardens and Durham International School during the same hours.

In Kirinyaga County, the interruption will affect Kibingoti Market and Kibirigwi Market from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Areas listed include Njukiini Stage, Karima Village, Kiangwaci Market, Gacharu Village, Ndia Technical, Kiine Girls, Daybert Academy, Chema Village, Kianjege West, Fred’s Grammar, Kairini Village, Kiburu Market and Mitondo Coffee Factory.

Nyeri County will also experience outages in Endarasha Market and Charity areas between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm. Kenya Power said the blackout will affect Uasonyiro, Mairo, Endarasha Market, Pura, Endarasha Secondary School and Watuka Market.

In Kiambu County, power supply will be interrupted in Ruiru Kimbo and Murera Coffee areas from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Affected locations include Murera Kimbo, Murera Coffee, Mugutha, Ruiru Kenyatta University Model School, General Service Unit Ruiru, Spur Mall, Ruiru Golf Club, Mona Park, Green Ridge, Mugutha Secondary School, Murera Primary School and Ruera Dam, among others.

Another section of Kiambu County covering Ondiri and Mugumoini will also be affected during the same hours. Kenya Power said the interruption will affect Connix Industry, Ondiri Academy, Ondiri Police Station, Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organisation, Muguga, Kenya Tea Research Institute, Kamangu and nearby customers.

In Nakuru County, residents in Kayole A and surrounding areas will experience a blackout from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. Areas listed include Sanel Mall, Newstead Hotel, Keroche Breweries, Karai, Warranna Saw Millers, Nyamathi, Nyakairu, Cider Farm, Roka Industries, Kinungi, Bonanza and Soweto.

In Uasin Gishu County, the outage will affect Mobet, Tarakwa, Chemororoch, Mukunga, Sachangwan and Cheplachbei from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Residents in parts of Kilifi County will also be affected. The blackout in the Marafa area will run from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm and affect Bomani, Kenya Broadcasting Corporation, Marikebuni, Garashi, Wakala, Geographical Information Systems offices and Shomela.

In Kwale County, the interruption will affect the Maji ya Chumvi and Samburu areas from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
