A 74-year-old man stranded on Ndeini island in Wamunyu, Machakos County, for seven days due to flooding in River Athi has been rescued. Nyolo Ngeti was caring for his cattle on the island when rising water levels prevented him from crossing back to the mainland.

Surviving on flooded water alone, Ngeti was reunited with his family after his rescue on Tuesday morning.

“I have suffered on the island and I thank Governor Wavinya Ndeti for organizing a boat to rescue me. I will henceforth warn everyone against getting near flooded places,” he narrated.

His ordeal highlights the dangers posed by flooding during the rainy season. Ten people have been rescued from River Athi this season, including seven individuals airlifted from the Kabaa area and a five-year-old boy in the Ndiuni area. Machakos County officials urge residents to avoid flood-prone areas to prevent similar incidents.
