Detectives are searching for a gang responsible for killing a man who was delivering Sh420,000 to a construction site in Rabai, Kilifi County.
The driver, George Omondi, was shot three times in the chest and died at the scene, while his boss survived with gunshot wounds to his legs and hands.
The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon when the victims were ambushed by gunmen outside the gate of a construction site in the Kokotoni area, where General Mills is constructing a structure.
The two were delivering money to pay workers when they were confronted by armed robbers. The boss, shot in both legs and hands, was initially treated at Mariakani sub-county hospital before being transferred to Pandya Hospital in Mombasa for surgery.
Witnesses and police reported that the suspects escaped on a waiting motorcycle. Detectives suspect an inside job and have deployed a squad to investigate.
Additionally, police in Yatta, Machakos County, are investigating the murder of a man whose body was found in a river at Kiaoni market.
The body, discovered naked with a black T-shirt around the chest, had visible injuries on the face and blood stains. The victim’s body has been taken to a local mortuary as investigations continue.
Authorities are addressing the rise in armed robberies and urge victims to cooperate with thugs to ensure their safety.
