A probe into a suspected food poisoning incident has been launched after six police officers and three citizens fell ill in Nakuru County.

According to a police report, the 10 were affected after consuming food that was served during a luncheon organized by officers from Salgaa traffic base on Saturday, March 23, at Lee Resort.

“The food comprising of pilau, mukimo, chapatis, beef, and green vegetables were prepared by the officers and hired cooks elsewhere and then taken to the venue,” read the statement.

A day after the event, concerns arose after some attendees complained of stomachache, diarrhoea and headaches which prompted hospital visits.

Three senior male police officers were admitted to different hospitals on Tuesday and later discharged in stable condition.

Another four police officers, among them one female, were also admitted in separate hospitals and are all in stable condition. Two have been discharged so far.

Two staff members at Lee Resort, a young female and an older male, were also treated and discharged.
Another man, 46, was also treated and discharged on Monday.

The report states that the diagnosis of the affected persons has established that they had food poisoning.

“Several other officers who were affected have improved and are in stable condition after seeking earlier treatment,” said police.
