In Kisii, a teacher was sentenced to 35 years in jail on Wednesday for defilement. Etago Magistrate Vane Moguche found the 30-year-old guilty of defiling a Grade 4 minor, which is contrary to section 8 (1) (2) of the Sexual Offences Act.

According to the prosecution, the teacher intentionally defiled an 8-year-old minor on various dates between February and June 2023 within Kisii, inside a house located within the school compound.

During the trial, the minor testified that the accused, after finishing teaching in February 2023, detained her while releasing other pupils, and then proceeded to repeatedly defile her in his house.

She further stated that the teacher threatened to harm her if she disclosed the incident to anyone. Subsequently, she confided in the school headteacher, who promptly reported the matter to the police, leading to the teacher’s arrest.

During the sentencing on Wednesday, Magistrate Moguche condemned the act as revolting, heinous, and beastly.

“Here was a teacher who should protect the learners under his care. Instead, he took advantage of the victim in such a callous manner,” she stated.
