Abel Mutua is not shy about crediting the woman who has helped raise his daughter, and during a recent interview, the popular Kenyan actor gave her the kind of praise most employees only dream of hearing.

Speaking in a candid podcast-style conversation, Abel recalled a recent family trip to Cape Town with his wife, Judy Nyawira, and their daughter, known affectionately as Mumbus.

The nanny was part of that trip, and a photo of her reclining comfortably in a business class seat drew questions from curious onlookers online.

Rather than shy away from the moment, Abel used it as an opportunity to explain exactly who she is to them.

Abel’s tribute to nanny

Abel made it clear that the nanny is not simply an employee in their household.

“She is family now,” he said.

He added that when people ask him how many people are in his family, he counts four: himself, Judy, Steph, and Flo.

He noted that the nanny knows his daughter Mumbus better than some of the family members who raised her, a testament to just how deeply embedded she has become in their day-to-day lives.

The nanny first came back into their lives in 2018 after returning from travels.

Around that period, Abel was deeply involved in his work with Safaricom Blaze, moving between Mombasa, Nyeri and Meru on campaign duties.

It was not until around 2019 that the two properly reconnected and settled into the working relationship that has now stretched to six years.

Sic years and still going strong

The candid reflection painted a picture of a household built on trust and genuine appreciation. Abel acknowledged the years of service the nanny has put in, pointing out that it would be unfair for anyone to question why she was treated to a business class seat on a trip she had earned her place on.

“Just to show you that this woman has been with us for so long,” he said during the interview.

It is a rare moment of public gratitude in an industry where household staff often go unnoticed, and Abel’s words clearly came from a place of sincerity rather than performance.
