One person tragically died in an accident involving a bus belonging to Uzima University on Monday evening along the Kisumu-Kakamega highway.

According to police reports, the bus, which was carrying 17 students and 2 staff members returning from an educational trip in Kakamega to Kisumu, encountered the accident near the Coptic roundabout.

The driver reportedly lost control of the 51-seater bus, causing it to overturn and come to rest on its left side, obstructing one side of the dual carriageway. Unfortunately, one female staff member lost her life at the scene, while several other passengers sustained injuries, including a female staff member who is currently receiving treatment at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching & Referral Hospital (JOOTRH).

Among the injured were the driver, three male students, and four female students, who sustained minor injuries and have since been treated and discharged. The deceased has been transferred to the hospital mortuary pending a postmortem examination. Meanwhile, the damaged bus has been towed to the police station for further inspection.
