Aliko Dangote: Leaked Chats Show Influencers Flooding Billionaire’s Inbox after Refinery Investment

Days after Dangote Refinery threw open its IPO to everyday Nigerians, the internet has responded in the most characteristically Nigerian way possible, and it is absolutely hilarious.

On Thursday, September 17, comedian and influencer Onyinye Okoye shared a post on Facebook that had followers in stitches.

Are people investing in Aliko Dangote’s refinery?

The screenshots she shared showed two separate individuals sliding into the DMs of an alleged Aliko Dangote account on Instagram.

Both users addressed messages to Dangote as though they were genuine business partners.

In one conversation, a sender asked the impersonator for a daily briefing on refinery profits, writing:

“Good day, partner. So, about our refinery, what are today’s stats? How much profit have we made today? Brief me on the details.”

Another user, identifying himself as Emmanuel, CEO of Emmzy Styles Fashion Limited, went even further, telling the account he had spotted one of “their” company containers on the road with no driver inside and demanded that the man be sacked for being “not serious with our company.”

Onyinye captioned the post with a simple “Oh goodness 😂🤣😂🐱😂🤣,” and it is not hard to see why.

What triggered the Dangote shareholder craze?

The madness has its roots in the Dangote Refinery IPO, which opened to the public on September 14, 2026, in what was widely dubbed “the People’s IPO.”

Shares were priced at KSh 51 each, with a minimum purchase of just 10 shares costing KSh 511. Dangote himself suggested that a KSh 9,744 investment could grow tenfold within one or two years if the stock performs strongly.

Thousands of Nigerians, from students and market traders to first-time investors, rushed to buy in through investment apps, some of which reportedly crashed under the volume of traffic.

Almost immediately, a wave of shareholder humour swept social media, with new investors awarding themselves grand corporate titles, filming badly parked Dangote trucks and demanding board meetings, and questioning why they were still paying full petrol prices despite technically owning part of the refinery.

The DMs shared by Onyinye Okoye are simply the latest, and perhaps most absurd, chapter in that ongoing comedy.
