Niko Kadi movement leader Allan Ademba has challenged President William Ruto to show real support for creatives by attending a live show by urban wordsmith and activist Willie Oeba.

In a post shared on X on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, Ademba called on the Head of State to step out of speeches and into the actual creative spaces where young people are expressing themselves.

“Since Ruto supports creatives, I would love to see him attend show ya Crickets na @WillieOeba Ukitaka kujua how much the government sucks jiulize how many walipatikana kwa gunia Mukuru Kwa Njenga. Watch this piece. Tuko kadi,” Ademba stated.

Ademba and Oeba are among the faces behind the growing Niko Kadi movement, a youth-led campaign pushing young people to register as voters ahead of the 2027 elections. The initiative has quickly turned into a cultural moment, with young Kenyans proudly flashing voter cards and nudging each other to participate in shaping the country’s future.

Oeba is not your typical performer. A Nairobi-based spoken-word artist and activist, he has built a name using poetry to question power, highlight inequality and give voice to everyday struggles. His performances often feel less like entertainment and more like a mirror held up to society, the kind that makes audiences laugh, then go quiet, then clap a little harder than usual.

Campaign against Ruto

In February 2026, Oeba took civic education to the public by boarding a Public Service Vehicle (PSV), where he mobilised Kenyans to register as voters.

The artist shared a video on February 26, 2026, showing his interaction with passengers inside a PSV. In the clip, he encouraged Kenyans to register as voters ahead of the 2027 elections and urged what he referred to as “Zacchaeus” to step down.

In an apparent reference to President William Ruto, who has previously used several nicknames, the activist criticised his record while making a case for voters to use their power to remove him from office in the next election.

The video posted on his X account shows Oeba strongly stating his intention to see President William Ruto voted out in 2027. He said registering as a voter is the first step, followed by casting a vote that would determine Ruto’s fate.

“Ati Zakayo afanye nini? (What should Zacchaeus do?)”

Passengers in the vehicle responded that he should come down.

While continuing his spoken word performance, Oeba also criticised the president over unfulfilled promises.

He pointed to a pledge made by Ruto that the government would offer graduates paid internship opportunities. Instead, he said graduates were given wheelbarrows as a form of empowerment.

“Dear Mr President, the same students you promised paid internships in 2017 are the same graduates you are offering wheelbarrows to as empowerment in 2020,” Oeba said.
