A man who allegedly attempted to attack his wife with a machete during a domestic dispute at her house in Njiru Sub County, Nairobi is facing charges of attempt to strike with intent to maim.
SK is accused of attempting to cause grievous harm to LL contrary to section 231 (b) of the Penal Code.
He is accused of committing the offence on January 26.
SK who is an athlete, is also accused of attempting to chop their one-month-old son’s head during a tussle for the child
The suspect is facing an additional charge of assaulting his estranged wife in contravention of section 251 of the Penal Code after allegedly strangulating her during the incident.
SK had collected his personal belongings at LL’s house where they were living as husband and wife after she asked him to look for a job and stop idling around.

He later returned at night while allegedly armed with a machete and demanded the child who is slightly over a month old, allegedly threatening to kill LL and disappear with the child’s head.
The complainant placed the child on a sofa and kept a distance but later confronted and grabbed the suspect as he left with the child and the child fell during a commotion.
LL’s relative who was inside the house intervened and urged her to let SK go with the child to avoid being hurt.
Her neighbours who had heard a commotion raised an alarm and members of the public gathered at the house. Security guards disarmed SK who later took off and fled the scene.
The matter was reported to the police and the officers visited the scene.
SK was later traced and arrested on February 2 after investigations were completed. During the investigations, LL told the police that the accused person had severally threatened to kill her.
He denied the charges before Chief Magistrate Tito Gesora of Makadara Law Courts.
He was remanded in custody until February 14 pending an interview by the Department of Probation and Aftercare Services which will table a report to guide the court on setting bail and bond terms for the suspect.
