A family in Baringo County is mourning the loss of a young man whose dreams of pursuing higher education were tragically cut short.

Wicliffe Kiplagat Chirchir, 20, from Kaptere Village in Baringo North, was laid to rest after losing his battle with bacterial meningitis at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) in Eldoret on October 24.

The young man had completed his secondary education at Moi High School Kabartonjo in 2024 and was preparing to join university to pursue his academic ambitions.

However, his plans for the future were brought to an abrupt end by the illness, leaving his family, friends and community devastated.

Those who knew Wicliffe remember him as a humble, hardworking and sociable young man who had his whole life ahead of him.

His death has sparked an outpouring of sympathy, with many reflecting on the pain of losing someone so young, especially at a time when he was preparing to take the next step towards achieving his dreams.

For his family, the loss is particularly painful as they come to terms with a future that will no longer include the young man they had hoped to see graduate from university and build a successful life.
