Barnaba Korir, the Chairman of Athletics Kenya Nairobi branch, exudes confidence in Team Kenya’s prospects for success at the upcoming 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, France.

During an appearance on Citizen TV’s ‘Sporty Monday’ show, Korir expressed his assurance that all the athletes selected to represent Kenya were chosen based on merit. He emphasized that the athletes are diligently preparing for the competition scheduled to take place from July 26 to August 11, 2024.

Korir’s confidence reflects the rigorous selection process undertaken by Athletics Kenya to ensure that only the best athletes represent the country at the Olympics.

With their focused preparation and determination, Team Kenya aims to deliver outstanding performances and make the nation proud on the global stage of athletics in Paris.

“This team was selected on merit, they are preparing really well for the competition. I am sure they will put in a great performance in France.

As a country we should expect very good results this year,” said Korir.
The Team Kenya Deputy Chef-de-Mission also urged Kenyans to offer maximum support to the team in order to boost their morale ahead of the games.

“We need to support this team as much as we can it keeps them going and pushing themselves had to make sure they deliver more medals for Kenya that is my request to all Kenyans ahead of the games,” added Korir.

The significant increase in funding for the Sports Fund, from Kshs. 6.6 billion to Kshs. 16.5 billion in the budget estimates tabled in Parliament, has been lauded as a positive step for the development of sports in the country.

Barnaba Korir, among others, has expressed optimism about the impact this increased allocation will have on the sports sector.

With more financial resources available, the Sports Fund can support a wider range of initiatives aimed at nurturing talent, improving infrastructure, and enhancing training facilities across various sports disciplines.

This boost in funding is expected to create opportunities for athletes, coaches, and sports organizations to thrive and excel at both national and international levels.

The increased investment in sports reflects a growing recognition of the importance of athletics and sporting activities in promoting health, social cohesion, and national pride.

It is hoped that the expanded budgetary allocation will translate into tangible improvements in the sports sector, fostering a conducive environment for the growth and success of Kenyan athletes on the global stage.

“That is a good thing from the government, and as a federation we are really pleased with the support we have received from them, and I am sure it will go on to support the government,” stated the chairman.
