Tanzanian rap musician Darassa has teamed up with Kenyan rapper Khaligraph Jones, also known as the OG, on a new track titled Beginning, a reflective collaboration centred on growth, struggle, and success.
Released on Friday, April 24, 2026, via Africori, the nearly three-minute record brings together two of East Africa’s most respected rap voices in a joint effort that leans more into storytelling and reflection.
The production is layered and cinematic, built on triumphant drums, smooth guitar riffs, and choir-like background samples that create a motivational and emotional atmosphere.
The instrumental gives both artistes space to deliver their verses with clarity, allowing the message to take centre stage.
Reflective verses
Darassa opens the track with a calm and thoughtful tone, reflecting on his journey and the challenges he has overcome.
His delivery is introspective, focusing on resilience, patience, and the belief that has carried him through different stages of his career. His verses set a reflective mood, grounding the song in personal experience.

Khaligraph Jones follows with a more assertive and confident delivery, grounding his verse in personal growth and success.
He raps: “Let me take you to the beginning before tuanze, sio wengi waliamini.” and“Hii lifestyle buda sio kipindi, I’m proud of myself na siringi.”
His bars reflect a journey marked by doubt, struggle, and eventual triumph, delivered with his signature sharp flow.
Darassa also touches on the importance of trust in his journey, warning that not trusting people blindly can become a downfall.
East African unity
The back-and-forth structure between the two artists creates a strong chemistry, turning Beginning into more than just a song. It becomes a conversation about ambition, struggle, and the journey from humble beginnings to success.

At the same time, the East African music scene remains highly active, with other trending releases such as Bien’s new material and Ali Kiba’s Finale adding to a strong wave of fresh music dominating conversations across the region.
