A video of the late Kenyan gospel singer Betty Bayo speaking passionately about raising children in a peaceful environment has resurfaced online, drawing fresh attention as a bitter custody dispute over her two kids plays out in public.

‎The custody row took a sharp turn when Betty’s widower, Hiram Gitau, popularly known as Tash, went live on TikTok to dispute the court’s decision granting her biological father, Pastor Victor Kanyari, custody of the two children.

Tash rooted his challenge in Kikuyu customary law, arguing that Kanyari had not honoured bride price obligations and that this weakened any claim he might hold under those traditions.

Sky and Danny had been living with Tash following Betty Bayo’s separation from Kanyari, and they continued to do so after she passed away.

The situation drew even more public sympathy after Sky openly criticised the court ruling, expressed distress over the outcome, and credited Tash with being a stabilising figure during an incredibly difficult period in the children’s lives.

What did Betty Bayo say about raising kids?

‎In the clip, Betty Bayo delivered a heartfelt message that many are now viewing through the lens of the ongoing family drama surrounding her children, Sky and Danny.

‎”Due to public demand, I am repeating this message. The greatest gift you can give your kids is not expensive education or leaving them an inheritance in terms of money or property. The greatest gift is raising them in a peaceful family. I am not saying the parent has to be married or single; as long as wherever you are, there is peace,” she said.
