Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has recalled how he personally delivered his late wife Gloria Sekeiyan Khalwale’s twins at their Nairobi home.
Speaking during Gloria’s burial in Malinya, Ikolomani, Kakamega County, on Friday, August 21, 2026, Khalwale shared the story while remembering the pregnancy that brought two of their children, Flavia and Olivia.
Khalwale said the couple discovered Gloria was carrying twins after going for an ultrasound during her pregnancy.
The scan revealed that she was carrying Flavia and Olivia, prompting Khalwale to decide how Gloria would give birth.
The senator, who is a doctor by profession, said he did not want his wife to deliver in a hospital labour ward.
“I studied as a doctor. I said, this wife of mine has given me two children; should I take her to the labour ward so that she can be delivered by nurses?” Khalwale recalled.
He said he decided against it.
“I refused,” he said.
Gloria reminded him
Khalwale said the couple remained at their Nairobi home as Gloria’s pregnancy progressed.
He recalled that Gloria would repeatedly remind him about the twins, particularly because he had remained quiet after learning that she was expecting two babies.
“She would say, ‘Twin, twin,’ because I was quiet,” Khalwale recalled.
When Gloria eventually went into labour, Khalwale said he personally assisted her with the delivery at their home.
He recalled delivering the twins while Gloria was seated on a chair.
A family memory
Khalwale shared the story as he mourned Gloria, who died suddenly on Saturday, August 15, 2026.
The senator said the memory of delivering Flavia and Olivia was among the personal experiences that connected him to his late wife and their family.
Gloria was the mother of eight of Khalwale’s children, including Flavia and Olivia.
Her children also paid emotional tributes during the funeral.
