Border Police Unit Commandant Gitiba Mwita passes on

The commandant at the Border Police Unit in Kanyonyoo, Kitui County, Gitiba Mwita, has passed on.

His death was confirmed by Deputy Inspector General in charge of Administration Police Noor Gabow, through the Administration Police’s X account.

“The DIG APS Mr. Noor Gabow CBS, OGW, has learned with profound shock and sorrow of the sudden passing on of Mr. Gitiba Mwita, MBS, HSC. Mr Mwita, until his demise, was the Commandant at the Border Police Unit in Kanyonyoo, Kitui County,” the police said.

“As the Service and family embark on funeral & burial arrangements, the DIG joins the family, friends, and relatives, and the entire fraternity in mourning this gallant and dedicated officer.”

According to reports, Mwita, who was a Senior Assistant Inspector General of Police was found unconscious on Friday, December 15 at his rental house in Matuu town.

According to a police report, he was rushed to Matuu Level 4 Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

“Today the 15th December, 2023 at about midnight it was reported vide OB No. 2/15/12/202 that one Mr Ezekiel Gitiba Mwita, S/AIG aged 54 years who was the Commandant Border Police Patrol Unit suddenly fell unconscious in his rental house at Matuu Town,” the report read in part.

“Officers proceeded to the scene and rushed him to Matuu Level 4 Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The body has been moved to Umash Funeral Home pending autopsy.”

It is not yet clear what caused his death.
