Police in Busia have arrested a 22-year-old woman accused of impersonating a General Service Unit (GSU) officer.
The suspect, Jacinta Maryline Ouma who hails from Bukiri, Samia was arrested at the Buhalire shopping centre as she was heading to Butula police station.
At the time of her arrest, the suspect accomplice who was walking alongside a male was dressed in a full GSU uniform with an AK47 riffle.
Police say her arrest followed suspicions from colleagues who questioned the origin of her uniforms and riffle.
The officers also noted that the suspect had been wandering in police stations in Kisumu, Siaya, Kiambu and Busia police stations
“We suspected her while on duty at Bumala police and we had her arrested and we found a lot of pictures in her phone with a full GSU uniform and a firearm but she could not explain herself in which police station she was from. We had her arrested for the investigation to be done,” an officer stated.
Following the arrest, the suspect was arraigned at the Busia High Court where she appeared before Magistrate Peter Olengo.
She pleaded guilty to the charges and informed the court that she acquired the attire from the Industrial area and the gun from an officer to take photos.
‘I bought the uniform in the Industrial Area and I just wanted to put on the uniform so that people can know I am a police officer and I do not have a gun, I was only given by a police officer to take photos,” she stated.
Justic Olengo ordered that the suspect is detained at the Bumala police station for a further 21 days to pave room for further investigations.
