A group of Form 4 students at Busiada High School in Busia melted hearts across social media after pooling together to buy their class teacher a mattress as a parting gift, with the moment captured on video and shared widely online.
The clip, posted on TikTok by @teacherdan12, shows a group of girls dressed in blue uniforms, red ties and green sashes lifting a large gift box high above their heads in a jubilant outdoor celebration at the school compound.
An on-screen caption reading “Form 4 Green, gifted class teacher 🥰” accompanied the footage, setting the tone for what turned out to be an emotional and festive send-off.
Busia students happily serenade teacher’s gift
The gesture, simple yet deeply personal, spoke to the kind of relationship that develops over years in a classroom.
Rather than a conventional card or token, the students chose a practical item, a mattress, suggesting they wanted their teacher to be comfortable long after they had left the school gates for the last time.
The celebration had the energy of a proper send-off, with the students clearly enthusiastic as they paraded the gift around the school grounds.
Busia students honor teacher
The footage quickly gained traction online, resonating with viewers who recognised the warmth behind the gesture.
For many, it served as a reminder of the quiet, often unacknowledged sacrifices that teachers make, and of the lasting impressions they leave on their students.
In a school year marked by the pressure of national examinations, the students still found time and means to honour the person who had guided them through their final year of secondary school, a detail that made the moment all the more meaningful.
