A Busia court has sentenced a middle-aged man to 18 years imprisonment for defiling and impregnating a 12-year-old schoolgirl.

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (ODPP, in a statement on Friday, said the suspect committed the offence while working as a teacher in one of the local schools in the area. The girl later had a miscarriage.

Appearing before Busia Resident Magistrate Eunice Serem, the suspect was found guilty of the offence and slapped with the sentence after the prosecution proved the case beyond reasonable doubt.

Led by Faith Kaberia, the prosecution had presented six witnesses and other exhibits which linked the suspect to the crime.
“The prosecution through Faith Kaberia proved the case against the accused and called a total of 6 witnesses, who in their testimony informed the court that the accused committed the heinous act that led to the young girl getting pregnant and later miscarried,’ stated ODPP.
