A Kiambu businesswoman found herself in an emotional and financial crisis after customers allegedly boycotted her hotel following remarks she made publicly supporting the “Tutam” camp.

In a video that has been circulating online, the distressed woman walked through her establishment, her voice breaking as she gestured at rows of empty seats and tables laden with untouched food.

“In this Kenya we have not freedom of speech anymore; me saying tutam has made my customers to reject my food. Now where will I take all this food? I only said tutam and customers have refused to eat, look at all these chapatis,” she said, holding up the unsold chapatis as the evening wore on.

The woman insisted her political expression carried no malicious intent and was simply a personal opinion.

Growing increasingly desperate as she realised the food would go to waste overnight, she made a public appeal, asking anyone willing to come and eat at no charge.

“I did not mean to offend anyone; please come and eat them for free because they will spoil, Pease forgive me, Ruto I am supporting you openly, and now they do this to me,” she added, her frustration palpable.

She stepped outside her premises to show that not a single customer was in sight or approaching, underscoring how completely the boycott had taken hold.
