A young Kenyan pilot whose aviation career had barely begun was killed in a plane crash in Kajiado County, just weeks after completing his training, leaving family, friends and the NG-CDF community in deep grief.
Alex Oluka, a pioneer pilot sponsored under the National Government Constituency Development Fund, graduated from the Kenya School of Flying.

Before pursuing aviation, Oluka had demonstrated the same drive academically, scoring an A plain with 82 points at Kolanya Boys High School in the Class of 2021.
Among the details that have struck those who knew him is the story of his mother, Everylin Inait, who had the rare experience of flying over Kajiado County during the airshow that preceded her son’s graduation ceremony last month.
Weeks later, she received news that the same county had claimed his life.
Oku Kaunya visits Kajiado County Referral Hospital
Oku Kaunya, who shared the condolence message on Facebook, said he personally visited the mortuary at Kajiado County Referral Hospital alongside Martin Kibachio, General Manager of the Kenya School of Flying, Engineer Elijah Sempele of the same institution, and Ezekiel Wanga, the DCIO Isinya. Oluka’s remains were subsequently transferred to Chiromo Mortuary for preservation.
“His promising career was tragically cut short at a time when his future was full of hope and great possibilities,” Kaunya wrote, extending condolences to Oluka’s father, Leonard Otolim, his mother Everylin Inait, and the wider family.
Police confirmed the identities of the victims following the light aircraft crash in Kajiado, with details about the occupants shared shortly after the incident.

Oluka was on board as a student pilot at the time of the accident.
For a community that had invested in his dream and watched him soar, the loss has been particularly difficult to absorb.
Kaunya described it as “a painful loss,” expressing hope that God would grant the family the strength and comfort to carry through what he called an extraordinarily difficult period.
