“Philanthropy is not about a name on a building. It really is about compassion because if you do what you do without love, then it’s just a resounding gong,” she said.

For Charlene, that kind of sustained generosity requires a depth of love that many underestimate.
“To host people in this home for all over the years, it must have taken a lot of love. It’s discomfort. It’s people coming into your space all the time. It really takes a lot of love,” she added.
