A 27-year-old suspect linked to an alleged child trafficking and sexual exploitation ring has been arraigned before the Shanzu Law Courts after detectives rescued 22 girls in an intelligence-led operation in Mombasa.

The suspect, Almasi Rama Amos, was nabbed by a contingent of detectives from the Anti-Human Trafficking and Child Protection Unit and the Regional Criminal Investigations Office in Mombasa following weeks of investigations into alleged child abuse targeting vulnerable young girls.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), detectives trailed the suspect to a hideout in Nguu Tatu Estate within the Concordia area of Kisauni sub-county, where he was allegedly found in the company of three female juveniles.

Preliminary investigations revealed what detectives described as a disturbing scheme in which the suspect allegedly operated rescue centres across Mombasa and Kilifi counties under the guise of nurturing and mentoring young girls.

“Behind the facade, however, the centres were being used as grounds for sexual exploitation and abuse of minors,” the DCI said in a statement.

The DCI says the suspect later led officers to another facility in Ribe, Rabai sub-county, where detectives rescued 19 more female juveniles, bringing the total number of rescued victims to 22.

The suspect appeared before the Shanzu Law Courts, where he faced several charges, including defilement, child trafficking for purposes of sexual exploitation, promotion of child trafficking and child abuse.

Amos pleaded not guilty to the charges and was denied bond. The case is scheduled for mention on June 8, 2026.
