Former Italy midfielder Gennaro Gattuso has been appointed as the new head coach of Hajduk Split, the Croatian club announced on Wednesday. Gattuso, 46, who was part of Italy’s World Cup-winning team in 2006, has signed a two-year contract with Hajduk Split.
“HNK Hajduk with great pleasure can confirm today that our first team will be led by the legendary Gennaro Gattuso,” the club stated.
Gattuso’s most recent coaching role was with Marseille, but he was dismissed in February after just five months in charge. Hajduk Split will be his ninth coaching job, having previously managed teams such as AC Milan, Valencia, Fiorentina, and Napoli.
Hajduk Split, six-time Croatian champions, finished third in the league last season and will compete in the second qualifying round of the UEFA Conference League for the upcoming season.
