Real Madrid’s goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois will make his long-awaited return to the field this weekend against Cadiz, confirmed by coach Carlo Ancelotti on Friday. The Belgian international, sidelined for nine months due to a knee ligament injury, faced another setback in March, necessitating another knee operation.
“Yes, Thibaut is fine. He will play tomorrow (Saturday) after a long period of absence,” said Ancelotti.
“He’s looking forward to playing. We’re delighted to see him return.”
Real Madrid, currently leading La Liga, have a chance to secure the title this weekend with assistance from Girona, surprising contenders this season.
Madrid faces Cadiz on Saturday, and if they win and Girona disrupts Barcelona’s points immediately afterward, Madrid will claim their 36th Spanish title.
Courtois, who has returned to team training for weeks, joined Madrid’s squad for the Champions League semi-final first leg against Bayern Munich, ending in a 2-2 draw.
Asked about a possible start for Courtois in the Champions League final if they reach it, Ancelotti replied: “The final we have in mind is Wednesday against Bayern, in which (Andriy) Lunin will play, and then we will see.”
In 2022, Courtois played a pivotal role in Real’s Champions League victory, establishing himself as one of the world’s top goalkeepers.
