Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested a suspect linked to a viral video the agency says contained inciteful remarks likely to undermine national cohesion.

In a statement on Sunday, the DCI said Bare Sahara Ahmed was taken into custody after investigators reviewed the video circulating on social media and launched inquiries to establish the context and intent of the statements.

The suspect is being held in lawful custody and is being processed ahead of arraignment, the DCI said.

The agency cautioned that while freedom of expression is protected under the Constitution, it must be exercised responsibly and within the law.

The DCI also warned that statements that may incite division, hatred or threaten peaceful coexistence will be dealt with firmly, and urged the public to remain calm and avoid sharing inflammatory content.
