Five months after the passing of one of Kenya’s most beloved sports broadcasters, the grief at home remains just as raw.
On Saturday, October 24, a post appeared on the Facebook page of Paul “Diblo” Kaberia, written by his daughter, marking the painful milestone of half a year without her father.
How did Diblo’s daughter mourn him?
“Today marks 5months since you left 😭 life has never been the same, I wish u were here,” the tribute read.
“You may be gone bt u are forever in my heart ❤️❤️ Thank you for been an amazing dad #bestdadever continue resting in peace. its been hard to accept this everyday i wish it was a dream.”
The post was a deeply personal reflection from a daughter still struggling to come to terms with her loss, but it struck a chord far beyond the family.
Fans of the legendary commentator, many of whom grew up hearing his distinctive voice narrate Kenyan football, flooded the comments with their own tributes.
What happened to Diblo Kaberia?
Kaberia, widely known by his nickname “El Mago” (The Magician), died on Sunday, May 24, 2026, while receiving treatment at Ruaraka Uhai Neema Hospital in Nairobi.
He had been battling health complications for some months, and colleagues in the media industry had organised a fundraiser in the days leading up to his death to help cover his medical costs.
His passing was confirmed by fellow commentator Fred Arocho and Radio Africa Group’s HR department.
Before building a career at Radio Jambo, where he spent more than two decades as the defining voice of Swahili football commentary, Kaberia had played football, refereed matches and coached high school teams for nearly ten years.
His death drew tributes from fans, journalists, football figures and the Football Kenya Federation.
